The Wheel of the Year
Mabon
Mabon falls anytime between 20-23 September and marks the Autumn Equinox the day when daylight and darkness are equal in length, the first day of Autumn.
It marks the end of the grain harvest, and we clear our gardens of most of our crops leaving only apples, pears and winter hardy plants. The sun begins to retreat and all growth stops and leaves begin to turn into orange and brown autumn colours. The nights begin to feel colder as the sun is lower in the sky as we begin our decent towards Winter.
Light a white candle and reflect over the recent months at what you have achieved and learnt and give thanks. It is a time of balance, light and dark, life and death, Summer and Winter. Review the recent months forgiving those who you have fought with and more importantly forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made and the things you have said or not said. Light a black candle from your white one and welcome in the dark season taking light from the summer and leave to burn as we take our first steps towrds Winter.
Blessed be.
☽◯☾
Samhain
The leaves fall from the trees
And the world prepares for sleep
Darkness gathers
Nothing grows
All is still.
It is the end of the old year
The sun God goes to the shadows
The Goddess weeps amber tears
But the wheel of the year is a circle
And circles have no end
The God goes only to the Summerlands
To rest and sleep before rebirth
We too descend into the darkness to be reborn with the light
This is not an end, but a beginning.
